LOCKDOWN DIARY : DAY 18

Most likely, the lockdown is going to be extended by another 15 days. As if making sure nobody misses a day of NaPoWriMo. Jokes aside, I believe it is the perfect time for both men and women in the house to put a check on the inherent patriarchy in the household.

The lockdown has been a huge burden on housewives, as I can see with my mother. She is retired, but she has to constantly be on her toes for us. Even our help in cooking a meal or washing utensils is not enough because my mother wraps up most of the homely chores early in the morning, while everyone is asleep. Take some time and ponder who is managing the following things: washing utensils and clothes, cleaning toilets, throwing garbage, dusting the furniture, wiping and sweeping the floor, cooking, putting clothes out to dry, folding and ironing of the clothes, change of the bedsheet and so on. Chances are 80% of these tasks are being done by the homemakers of the house without ever asking for our help. Let's do our part. I am going to fold all the clothes right now. What about you?
